Afterimages is my abstract watercolor series shaped by what remains after looking—color, movement, and sensation lingering just beyond the edge of form.
These works follow the uncertain space where water moves before thought catches up, where pigment blooms, separates, stains, and leaves its trace. They are not planned abstractions, but responsive ones, guided by gravity, timing, accident, and attention.
Death Valley
Abstract watercolor studies shaped by stone, erosion, silence, and shifting desert light.
The first Afterimages collection emerged from Death Valley, where scale, silence, and geology begin to alter perception itself. Painted after long days working on site in Mosaic Canyon, Golden Canyon, Artist’s Palette, and the Mesquite Dunes, these abstractions carry traces of the landscape without attempting to describe it directly. Iron-stained cliffs, polished dolomite, shifting dunes, mineral color, erosion, pressure, and reflected heat dissolve into layered washes, unstable edges, and suspended forms. Rather than documenting the desert, the series explores what lingers after standing inside spaces so vast they quietly rearrange your sense of time, color, and attention.
