Watercolor workshops rooted in place, presence, and the joy of seeing differently.
These aren’t formal classes—they’re invitations to step outside and slow down. To really look. Whether you're just beginning with watercolor or returning to deepen your practice, expeditions offer a space to explore at your own pace, with guidance that meets you where you are.
We’ll sketch and paint in living, breathing places—gardens, parks, street corners full of rhythm and light. Along the way, you’ll learn approachable techniques to build your confidence: how to draw what you see, mix color intuitively, and let the landscape lead.
These sessions are about presence over perfection. They’re for anyone who wants to reconnect—with nature, creativity, and the way watercolor makes you feel when you're truly out there.

1:1 or small group (up to 4) botanical line & wash
This session is all about slowing down and seeing the beauty in the details—leaves, petals, stems, and all. We’ll begin with simple line drawings, then layer in watercolor to bring your subject to life with depth and character. Because this is focused on individual instruction, the session is kept intentionally small—so whether you're brand new or more experienced, you'll get personalized guidance at your level.
We’ll explore essential watercolor techniques like wet-on-wet blending, layering washes, dry brush textures, and building a vibrant, limited palette. You’ll also learn how to compose your subject thoughtfully—how to balance white space, guide the eye, and create a feeling of calm or movement. You’ll leave with new tools, a finished piece, and a deeper sense of your own creative rhythm.

1:1 or small group (up to 4) San Francisco urban sketching
Want to sketch the most interesting, lively, or quietly magical corners of San Francisco? Let’s go find them. From the hum of a farmers market to the quiet glow of Ocean Beach at dusk, this session is tailored to your pace and interests. We’ll explore the city together with pen and brush in hand, capturing the moment through the classic line and wash technique.
You'll begin with quick, expressive sketches, then bring them to life with watercolor on the spot. Whether you're a beginner looking to loosen up or a practiced sketcher refining your style, this is your time to notice what’s out there—and keep it with you.
